Egypt’s Tortures: Whole Family Tortured in Sharqiya

The series of torturing citizens still goes on in police stations. Despite the shameful scandal dealt to the Egyptian police after revealing the issue of mass detentions and mass tortures at the Alexandria police station of Al-Muntazah, more and more scandals are revealed every day implicating elements affiliated to Egyptian Interior Ministry.

Despite the shameful scandal dealt to the Egyptian police after revealing the issue of mass detentions and mass tortures at the Alexandria police station of Al-Muntazah, more and more scandals are revealed every day implicating elements affiliated to Egyptian Interior Ministry.
 
This a new case of family whose all members even an infant were tortured due to a false charge .
 
 The tragic incident started when the police of this district said that a driver accuses a member of family, Mohamed, of beating him.
 
The police elements ignored the accused member and started to torture his. A police major at Zagazig police station stormed into the house of the brother of the accused man, Ahmed Sabri, in his village of Shaibat Al-Nakariyah, Zagazig.
After arresting the brother of the accused, the police officer didn"t stop short of arresting even his old mother and hi wife ( wife of the accused man) and her baby.
 
All the family was detained during the period July16-19, 2007 in the police station. The family faced the severest kinds of torture. Mohamed"s wife was hauled and dragged on the floor, her veil was removed, and his brother was tortured and even his baby was detained in bad conditions inside the police station.

Meanwhile, the driver who told the police that he was beaten by Mohamed, came to the police station and backpedaled from his charge. However, the officer did not recognize this retreat and continued  insulting and torturing the family.

On Thursday evening July, 19th, 2007, the uncle of the defendant submitted a complaint at the Interior Ministry protesting at the tortures committed against his sister"s family by an officer at Zagazig police station and especially detaining the baby who suffered from an acute cold due to sleeping with his mother, grandmother and uncle on the floor of the prison.
 
The detained family told the police officer who arrested them that the baby had an acute cold but he did not pay any attention to this.
 
After submitting the complaint, the assistant security manager intervened and ordered the this police major to release the family especially after Mohamed"s innocence was proved. The assistant security manager told Mohamed"s uncle to go to the police station to be sure by himself. However, when the lawbreaking police major was informed that this uncle came to the police station, he detained him and threatened him with submitting a complaint against him of beating detectives. A detective wrote a complaint against Mohamed"s uncle and the police major prepared fake witnesses, threatening the uncle with escalating matters unless he retreat the complaint he submitted at the Interior Ministry.
 
The uncle agreed, under pressures, threats and detention, on retreating the complaint but he refused in the Interior Ministry"s directorate to concede his right in the complaint.
