Egyptian police arrested on Monday Egyptian blogger Omar Al Sharqawi while he was covering the Shura Council midterm elections in the governorate of Dakahlia. Omar was detained while taking photos in a polling centre that was void of any voter.

Monzer Al Youssef, a blogger an friend to Omar, confirmed in an email to Ikhwanweb that he received a phone call from him at 9.30 AM on Monday morning telling him that he was detained only for taking photos.

Detaining Al Sharqawi comes only hours after the police raided the house of blogger Mohamed Yaqout in Kafr El Sheikh, arresting correspondent ANN channel and preventing Aljazeera crew from covering the election day in Greater Cairo. All thes incidents confirm the Egyptian police’s premeditated plans for hunting bloggers and media figures who expose the riggings committed on the day of the Shura Council midterm elections.
