The House Appropriations markup of State-Foreign Operations bill will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday in 2359 Rayburn. Check back tomorrow for POMED’s notes on the hearing.

Likely to be debated is the extensive military aid package to Egypt, whose parliamentary elections today were marred by violence against independents. The Washington Post reports that more than 700 Muslim Brotherhood opposition members have been arrested since they announced they would participate in the elections. In what may be an encouraging sign of an independent judiciary, the Supreme Court rejected President Mubarak’s request to disqualify 17 of the Brotherhood’s candidates yesterday.
