Hassan Zalat, one of the Muslim Brotherhood defendants the Military Tribunal, was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at the Al Manial University Hospital after his health sharply deteriorated, and was put on a breathing machine.
Zalat received poor medical care during his  hospitalization which led to his deterioration. Immediately after family was informed, his son Omar said he went to his father on Sunday evening to find him laying in the intensive care unit without even being evaluated by the physicians and none of his routine medications were given. Omar was able to buy his father’s medication and deliver it to his father.
It is worth mentioning that Hassan Zalat has several blocked arteries in his heart and require open heart surgery as soon as possible. However, the hospital administration claimed that it does not have the funds to cover the expenses it and referred his case to the medical councils .
When his family demanded that they send him to a specialized medical center to have the surgery and pay its cost from his money; both prison and hospital administrations rejected this demand.
