Makram Mohamed Ahmed, the new chairman of the press syndicate, called for immediately releasing fellow journalist Ahmed Ezzuddin, the editor-in-chief of the suspended Al Shaab newspaper and one of 40 Muslim Brotherhood (MB) leaders referred to a military tribunal following an athletic show performed at Al-Azhar University in December 2006.
This demand was issued on the sidelines of the press syndicate elections held on Saturday. Makram signed along with two thousand other journalists a joint document demanding fellow journalist Ahmed Ezzuddin released from Torah farm prison to end this military farce, according to them. The journalists gathered two thousands signatures from members of the general assembly who declared their full rejection to detaining any journalist due to any intellectual or political affiliations. The signatories demanded the new chairman and their elected syndicate board called for taking positive moves to support Ezzuddin and exercise pressures on the regime to release him. They also declared their rejection to the decision leaving his name off the list of candidates . The list of signatories included: Makram Mohamed Ahmed, the newly elected press syndicate chairman Ragaae Al Mirghani Osama Sraya, editor-in-chief of Al-Ahram Anwar Al Hawari, editor-in-chief of Al Wafd Mostafa Bakri, editor-in-chief Al-Osbo Hamdi Rizk Ahmed Mousa Diaa Rashwan, an expert at Al-Ahram center for political and strategic studies Wael Al Ibrashi, editor-in-chief of Sawt Al-Umma Saad Hugres, editor-in-chief "The World Today " Hazem Monir, editing manager of "Rosa Al Yousef" Yasser Rezq, an editor-in-chief of Radio and TV Magazine Ibrahim Mansour, executive editor-in-chief of Al-Dustour Abdul Mohsen Salama, a member of the Press Syndicate board Ahmed Taha Al-Naqr Abbas Al Tarabili Famous writer Yousef Al-Qa"eed Hamdein Sabahi, leader of Karama Party under construction, and others . |
