NDP: There are no Christians in Egypt

I had decided to continue talking about the sectarian problem in Egypt.Unfortunately the upcoming Shura (Upper House of Parliament) elections in Egypt force me to post a comment.The ruling Mubarak & Son NDP party has nominated 109 candidates for the 88 contested seats.

I had decided to continue talking about the sectarian problem in Egypt.
Unfortunately the upcoming Shura (Upper House of Parliament) elections in Egypt force me to post a comment.

The ruling Mubarak & Son NDP party has nominated 109 candidates for the 88 contested seats.

Many comments can be said about the Shura elections, from the opposition parties boycotting, Muslim Brotherhood members being harassed, lack of fair supervision to vote rigging, but another important issue struck me while reading the NDP candidates list.

There are no Christians on the list.

Out of 109 candidates, Mubarak could not find one single Christian to nominate.

Now there are two explanations one could come up for this.

The first is that the NDP is a discriminatory party that has no Christian members. Of course this is not true. The NDP is our great ruling party and represents Egypt and all Egyptians.

The second is that there are no Christians in Egypt in the first place.

This makes sense, doesn’t it? The NDP did not nominate any Christians because Egypt has no Christians.

I want to dedicate this story to three people: Pope Shenouda and the Coptic Church in Egypt who supports Mubarak and the NDP at every elections and at every moment; and to those that claim that the NDP is pro Christians or gives Christians more rights; or those Christians that think that they have a lot to fear if the Muslim Brotherhood rules Egypt.
