PSL organizes symbolic funeral for Gaza siege victims

The Palestinian Scholars League (PSL) organized on Tuesday a symbolic funeral march for 65 Palestinians who died because of the Israeli ban imposed on their travel to get medical treatment abroad or on the entry of medical supplies to Gaza, calling on the international community to get the Israeli siege lifted.

The Palestinian Scholars League (PSL) organized on Tuesday a symbolic funeral march for 65 Palestinians who died because of the Israeli ban imposed on their travel to get medical treatment abroad or on the entry of medical supplies to Gaza, calling on the international community to get the Israeli siege lifted.During the march which was attended by a large number of scientists and academics, Dr. Marwan Abu Ras, the head of the PSL, handed Dr. Magdi Shaqqour, the French consul, a letter addressed to French president Nicolas Sarkozy, and expressed his hope that France would play a strong role in pressuring the Israeli occupation to lift the unjust siege imposed on the Gaza Strip.

Dr. Abu Ras also handed another written letter to Bassim Khaledi, the UN representative in Gaza. The letter was addressed to Mr. Ban Ki Mun, the UN secretary general.For his part, Dr. Hassan Khalaf, confirmed during a press conference following the march, that the surgical operation rooms in the Strip are about to close because of lack of medicines and medical equipment needed for surgery, calling on the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Bank to move to lift the siege on Gaza and to re-supply Gaza with necessary fuel for electricity.Dr. Khalaf called on the international community to assume their responsibilities and react towards the suffering of the Gaza people, adding that the health ministry in Gaza made every effort for the sick and wounded, but it could not provide them with all they need.
