Egyptian state security forces detained all protesters in front of Sayeda Zeinab mosque in a demonstration against government"s abolition of ration cards through which low-income citizens were receiving some subsidized commodities.

The detainees included male and female, young and aged protesters who were thrown in three prison trucks.

The security forces also assaulted foreign journalists and cameramen including the Swedish reporter Pierre Birklund whose memory card, camera and mobile card were seized by the security forces.
 
Abdul Wahab Al Meseiri, Kifaya coordinator, was detained from inside Sayeda Zeinab mosque and was released later. The security launched released of the detained female protesters first including:
Besan Kassab, a journalist at Al-Dostour
Ibtisam Taalab, a journalist at Al-Badil
Nawal Ali, a journalist at Al-Badil
Rasha Azab, a journalist at Al-Fagr
A number of detainees were left in remote desert regions on the ring road and Al-Katameya road. Some of tham managed to find their way home through workers-laden trucks accidentally passing in the middle of the desert including:
 
Hani Al Asar, a journalist at Al-Dostour
Mohamed Gamal, a blogger
Essam Fadl, a journalist at Al-Sharq Al-Awsat
Other detainees are currently appearing in front of Al-Galaa prosecution, including:
 
Mohamed Adel, a blogger
Omar Said, a journalist at Al-Badil
Peter Alfred, a journalist at Karama
 
A number of lawyers and human rights activists are currently accompanying the detainees
