Robert Fisk: Security Forces Jail Arab and Islamic Countries

Prominent UK writer Robert Fisk condemned Arab and Islamic regimes and said that the Arab and Islamic world is now living under the slogan:" silence them, charge and jail", pointing out that these actions are carried out by security services that jail peoples.

Fisk didn"t deny, in his article published in the British Independent newspaper, the repressive actions committed by the Western civilization throughout its history, and said:" I know our reputation with regard to freedom of speech, starting with the Roman Empire , through to the Spanish Inquisition, Henry VIII, and up to Mussolini and Hitler. But what is happening in the Middle East cannot be ignored."
 
Fisk pointed a finger to the police in intelligence agencies in repression, saying: "When Egyptian women shout the word "enough" they get sexually harassed by police officers in Mubarak"s regime. Also when Algerians demand to know the names of the policemen who killed their relatives they get arrested.
 
"And when Benazir Bhutto was assassinated, imams remained silent to the extent that Sheikh Sayed, the imam of the largest mosques in Canada , offered condolences to the families of the victims who died in the incident without mentioning Bhutto"s name because he said mosques are not political arenas."

Fisk also spoke abut the so called the Damascus spring following the departure of Hafez al-Assad in 2000, saying: "Such "spring" did not portend a "golden" summer for Syria, as the policy of knocking doors in the middle of the night has returned and doors of cells were opened again.
 
For his part, Ali Sadruddin Al Bianouni, the chairman of the Muslim Brotherhood in Syria agreed with Fisk"s view regarding the Syrian situation. The Syrian regime deceived people, when current president Bashar Al-Asad assume office, with softly-spoken words about democracy, but- according to Al Bianouni, it was revealed later that this a deception. When some people carried out some peaceful activities, they surprisingly found out that these claims were mere lies. Al Bianouni said that the so called Damascus spring was a big lie.
