The Egyptian authorities prevented Dr. Abdul-Hameed Al-Ghazali, professor of Economics and Political Science at Cairo university, from traveling to Saudi Arabia today despite finishing all his travel procedures and having a court verdict two years ago allowing him to travel freely.

Al-Ghazali, a political consultant to the Muslim Brotherhood Chariman, was expected to attend the seventh conference of Islamic Economy, organized by the Islamic Economy Research Center iat King Abdul-Aziz university in Jeddah, and had a previous approval from Cairo university to attend the conference. However, state security authorities refused to allow Al-Ghazali to travel without justification.

Dr. Abdul-Hameed Al-Ghazali considered this action a clear violation of the simplest human rights Egyptian citizens should have; the freedom of travel and movement.

Saying that such act is a clear insult to Cairo university. Adding in his statement to Ikhwanweb that such acts would never help the Egyptian regime or even the country at all, and that they only prove the repressive nature of the regime in dealing with its political opponents.
