Rajab Abu-Zeid (member of MB parliamentary bloc) called for a new legislation allowing the prosecution of the state’s president for the violations he commits against the people, following the example of Mauritania in this regard.

In his statement to the official website of the bloc, Abu-Zeid described the Mauritanian experience as "a positive and brave strategy in favor of democracy." It grants the people the right to protest against the president’s misleading decisions that are against the law or the general benefits of the society. Moreover it makes the president consult the people before taking decisions lest he might be prosecuted.

The Constitutional Council (Highest legal authority in Mauritania) has ratified the law relating to the Supreme Justice Court, entitled to prosecute the president and top officials of the state. This court has been disabled under former president of Mauritania Muawiya Weld Ttaye`, who was ousted through military coup d’etat in August 2005.

The Constitutional Council has ratified the draft law relating to the court of Mauritania’s constitution after the parliament’s amendments of the law; the Council has refused the initial drafting of the law claiming it’s unconstitutional. Therefore, the law had to be amended and proposed again.
