Brotherhood Hopeful Candidate Barred from Registering for Vacant Parliament Seat

Security officials banned Muslim Brotherhood potential parliamentary candidate for Kafr Sakr constituency from submitting his registration papers to a Zagazig security headquarters for four consecutive days, MB eye-witnesses reported Wednesday.

Mustafa Diab, the hopeful candidate, has tried to register since Sunday, but his attorneys" attempts failed so far. 20 state security trucks were stationed outside the registration office on Wednesday and prevented anybody from getting into the office.

"The Egyptian regime insists on excluding the brotherhood and uses all means for that purpose," Diab said in his statement to the Brotherhood"s parliamentary bloc website. "Nevertheless, our belief in the necessity of peaceful reform makes us persist on our peaceful struggle against corruption and tyranny, no matter what sacrifices we offer."

He described the government"s policy of excising him as "old ways" that will not dissuade him from struggling to attain his political rights.

Kafr Sakr constituency in Sharkeya governorate was left vacant after Brotherhood MP Maher Akl (Diab"s father-in-law) died last month in a car accident.
