Mustafa Mohamed (member of the MB parliamentary bloc and chairman of the National Committee Against Price Hikes in Alexandria) said Thursday that the rise in fuel prices is a blatant violation of the Egyptian constitution.

Article 86 of the constitution states that the People’s Assembly is responsible for legislation, framing the state’s general policy, set the general plan for social ad economic development, and the state’s general balance.

Although the PA has not yet ratified the budget bill, the government in effect has implemented the bill, he said.

Fuel stations as well had already raised prices before the session was over. This indicates that the government has committed a blatant violation of the constitution, he added.
