Mohammed Ahmed Al-Gazzar, member of the Muslim Brotherhood parliamentary bloc, accused the Egyptian government of discriminating against women in government posts. Al-Gazzar stated in an urgent memo sent to the Egyptian Prime Minister, Ahmed Nazif, and the minister of Labour and Immigration, Aisha Abdel-Hady, that all governmental institutions belonging to the ministries of Agriculture, Commerce, Industry, and Gas indirectly intend to prevent employing women and young ladies from being hired in certain different positions, although they are qualified for the jobs. Adding that these institutions and companies give vague explanations to prevent employing females in different jobs; an act which he considered a clear violation of the constitution which allows equal job opportunities regardless of gender. |
