The Muslim Brotherhood has expressed condolences over the death of prolific scholar and opposition leader Dr. Abdel Wehab El Messiri, who died Thursday morning at the age of 70 after a long journey with  cancer.

Messiri was the general coordinator of the Egyptian Movement for Change (Kefaya) and is famous for his eight-volume "Encyclopedia on Jews, Judaism and Zionism" which he wrote over  a period of twenty years. He is considered a leading expert on the Arab-Israeli conflict, and has inspired many younger generations.

"We have undoubtedly lost a giant Intellectual in a critical phase of history," said Khaled Hamza Ikhwanweb Chief Editor.

"El Messiri has had an enormous impact on many people including myself. I awe him a lot in my thinking and knowledge about Islamic and western civilization."

Messiri has earned his master"s and PHD degrees from the USA, and has written several best seller books on secularism, western civilization, and studies on modernism and post modernism. He has also written in literature, including children literature.

He was a visiting professor in several universities in the world such as Ain Shams University in Cairo, the University of Malaysia, and King Saud University in KSA. He majored in English literature in his undergraduate studies.

Last January Messiri was kidnapped from a demo against price hikes by security forces and was dropped (along with his family members) in New Cairo desert.

The Egyptian government has refused to pay for his medical treatment, while a Saudi prince did.

15 years ago, he received death threats by the Khakh Zionist Movement for his writings on Zionism.

Ikhwanweb team is sorry for this sad news and sends condolences to Dr. El Messiri"s family, students, and fans all over the Arab and Muslim world.
