Al-Dostour newspaper called Friday on journalists and media figures to protest against arresting its journalist Hosam Al-Wakil.

 

The protest will be before the Journalists’ Syndicate on Saturday September 27, 2008 at 8:00 pm.

 

The newspaper called on all mass media and human rights activists to protest in solidarity with Al-Wakil who was imprisoned while trying to perform his duty and cover the events that took place at Alexandria- based Al-Jazeera school, the newspaper said.

 

Following the instructions passed by the attorney general for West Alexandria prosecutions, Dikhila prosecution decided to imprison Al-Wakil and others for fifteen days pending investigations in case no. 11758 of 2008.

 

Detainees were charged with participating with others in violent and terrifying activities and threats against judicial commissioners to stir unrest and violence among civilians as well as participating with others in impeding traffic and encroaching upon judiciary commissioners.
