Largest crackdown on MB this Ramadan
CAIRO: This Ramadan saw the most severe crackdown on the Muslim Brotherhood, with the arrests of over 145 of its members, the group’s lawyer Mohamed Abdel Maqsoud told Daily News Egypt.

CAIRO: This Ramadan saw the most severe crackdown on the Muslim Brotherhood, with the arrests of over 145 of its members, the group’s lawyer Mohamed Abdel Maqsoud told Daily News Egypt.

"In the past few years, detained members would be released during Ramadan, and never did the holy month see any arrests of Brotherhood members," he said.

Abdel Maqsoud explained that the 145 members detained were initially released when they appeared in court, however they were arrested again by security forces under the emergency law.

According to Abdel Maqsoud, Kafr El-Sheikh saw the largest number of arrests, with 41 members detained.

Of the remaining 104 detained, 29 were arrested from Al-Sharqeya, 20 from Menufiya, 14 from Alexandria and 12 from Al-Daqahleya. 

According to Ikhwan Online, Wadi Al-Natroun holds the largest number of MB detainees (46 members) followed by Borj Al-Arab (42 members), with prisons such as Shibeen Al-Kom and Al-Zaqaziq also holding a large numbers of the group"s detainees.
