The Palestinian center for human rights strongly denounced the IOA for preventing 100 multinational human rights activists from entering the Gaza Strip through the Beit Hanoun crossing to participate in the international conference on mental health to be held by the Gaza community mental health program (GCMHP) in cooperation with the world health organization (WHO). In a statement received by the PIC, the center said that this Israeli action comes in the context of the policy of collective punishment imposed on the Gaza people, adding that it is aimed to bar the international delegations from conveying aspects of the humanitarian tragic and daily suffering in the Strip to their countries. The GCMHP and the WHO are the organizers of the conference on the effects of the siege on mental health which will kick off today and conclude on Tuesday. The statement underscored that Israel does not only make a serious violation of freedom of movement, but it also infringes on the right to get academic knowledge and on the freedom of expression. The statement called on the international community especially the contracting parties to the fourth Geneva convention to urgently intervene to pressure Israel to allow the international participants to enter Gaza. |
