Judges Club: Judicial Supervision Of Syndicate Elections Is A Hoax

The Judges of Egypt Club’s final report on the situation of judicial presence in professional syndicates confirmed that judicial supervision of syndicate elections is a hoax pointing out that the selection of judges for the supervision committees is based on decisions issued by the Minister of Justice in coordination with the security apparatus.

The Judges of Egypt Club"s final report on the situation of judicial presence in professional syndicates confirmed that judicial supervision of syndicate elections is a hoax pointing out that the selection of judges for the supervision committees is based on decisions issued by the Minister of Justice in coordination with the security apparatus.

The report, prepared by one of the judicial committees headed by Vice-Chair of the Appellate Court Judge Ahmed Makky, pointed out that "judges were the first to oppose the 1993 law on warranties for professional syndicate democracy as the real purpose behind it was to kill democracy and shackle the ability of syndicates" public societies to manage their affairs."

The report also criticized the law"s dictation of forming judicial committees to call for elections if the quorum, which it described as "unmatched" by any country in the world, was not met.

The report further considered entrusting syndicate administration to judges an underestimation of the judicature especially since the security apparatus closely monitors syndicate activities and imposes measures to facilitate its control over elections.  This is confirmed by the invalidity of the recent Lawyers elections and issues raised concerning the last Press Syndicate elections which proved that "judicial supervision of elections" was in fact useless, and that it rather dispels trust in the judicature.

Moreover, the report requested judges" full, true and effective supervision of elections monitored by the electorate or, otherwise, their exemption from the duty.
