Habib: No Decision Yet About Shura Elections

Dr. Mohamed Habib said that the group hasn’t reached a decision yet over taking part in the coming Shura Council elections.
 
Dr. Mohamed Habib, the first deputy chairman of the Muslim Brotherhood (MB), said in a statement to Ikhwanweb that the group hasn’t decided yet whether to take part in the coming Shura Council elections.
 
Habib pointed out that the group is still mulling the file of the Shura Council elections and assessing the pros and cons of participating and other Shura election-related issues.
 
The MB leader added that the Egyptian political arena is witnessing a state of political deadlock and mystery as much as the near future is concerned; so, it is not easy to take the decision of participating in any elections under these tense atmospheres besieging the group, especially after a number of its leaders have been transferred to military tribunals.
 
Habib pointed out that the group has previously decided to take part in any elections but definitely we should say the right words for the right occasion.
 
It is worth noting that the Egyptian political arena has been witnessing a fierce confrontation between the Egyptian regime and the Muslim Brotherhood, after it garnered 88 seats in the last legislative elections, making it the biggest opposition in both parliament and the street. This crackdown lead to detaining more than 360 MB leaders and members, in addition to transferring 40 leaders to military tribunals, topped by eng. Khairat Al Shater the second deputy chairman of the Muslim Brotherhood and Dr. Mohamed Ali Beshr, a member of the group’s Executive Bureau.
