Amnesty International launches report on systematic human rights abuses in Egypt

Amnesty International will launch a new report which highlights the impact on human rights in Egypt of the government’s counter terrorism measures and the decades-long state of emergency, as well as fears that current Constitutional amendments and the planned new anti-terrorism law will perpetuate abuses.

The report, Egypt - Systematic abuses in the name of security, comes nearly a month after the organization warned that proposed Constitutional amendments would reinforce existing practices of arbitrary arrest and detention, torture and unfair trials, and further erode human rights protection. The report is based on interviews with victims of abuse and their relatives, government officials, human rights activists, lawyers and others.
