Newspapers Protest Gag Order in Suzanne Tamim Murder Case

Abdullah Al Sennawi, chief editor of the Nasserite weekly Al-Arabi, confirmed in exclusive statements to Ikhwanweb that the editors of the independent newspapers decided after their meeting on Monday at the headquarters of Al Wafd Party to file a lawsuit challenging an earlier court decision to impose a gag order in the trial of Hisham Talaat Mostafa, a business tycoon and a member of the powerful Policies Committee, in the murder case of pop singer Suzanne Tamim.

Abdullah Al Sennawi, chief editor of the Nasserite weekly Al-Arabi, confirmed in exclusive statements to Ikhwanweb that the editors of the independent newspapers decided after their meeting on Monday at the headquarters of Al Wafd Party to file a lawsuit challenging an earlier court decision to impose a gag order in the trial of  Hisham Talaat Mostafa, a business tycoon and a member of the powerful Policies Committee, in the murder case of pop singer Suzanne Tamim.

Al Sennawi confirmed that the chief editors of the independent and partys’ newspapers declared their solidarity with the journalists who were referred to trial for violating the gag order, and stressed on the importance of informing the public opinion of the case’ s developments which captured the interest of millions in the Arab world. He also denounced the fact that Arab and international newspapers were allowed to publish about the case while imposing ban on the Egyptian press.

Judge Mohammadi Quonsowah, President of South Cairo Court, had issued the gag order for Egyptian media "audio, visual and printed ones" to protect the intgerity of the investigation and the trial.
