Deputy Head of MB Parliamentary Bloc Criticizes Governments Refusal of Recommendations of HR

He clarified that the matter is not only in the aggravation of the perpetrator of the crime of torture but to expand the scope of criminality, pointing out that he had submitted this request since last year; however the Council has achieved these recommendations. Mr. Hussein Ibrahim (Deputy Head of MB Parliamentary Bloc) had criticized, in an exclusive statement to Ikhwanweb, the refusal by the government of the recommendation to amend Article 126 of Penal Law because it violates international conventions signed by Egypt. Adding that it had adopted the recommendations of National Council for Human Rights which was enacted by the parliament and the government had appointed its members.

 

He clarified that the matter is not only in the aggravation of the perpetrator of the crime of torture but to expand the scope of criminality, pointing out that he had submitted this request since last year; however the Council has achieved these recommendations. Mr. Ibrahim added, I did not like this situation so I decided for this file not to be closed.

 

He pointed out that he does not only demand the amendment of Article 126 of the Penal Law, but he also adds Article 128 and 129 of Penal Law to it because of suspicion of being unconstitutional, warning of the continuity of punishing perpetrators of the crime of torture by imprisonment for not more than one year and a fine of 200 L.E, which would allow further violations of human rights in Egypt.

 

Mr. Ibrahim stressed that the document of human rights in Egypt is one of the most important documents which MB pays attention for in the parliament as it had submitted several questions of the violations of human rights but the government tried to avoid discussing many of it.

 

Human rights organizations in Egypt suffer and complain about the increase of torture acts practiced by security agencies on Egyptian citizens.
