Ahram Journalists Protest, Request Chair’s Leave

In his statement to Ikhwanweb, MP Mohsen Radi described the assault on journalists of the most popular Egyptian and Arab newspaper Al-Ahram at the hands of its workers as a violation of the freedom of opinion and expression in an institution that supposedly conveys and expresses people’s ideas.

In his statement to Ikhwanweb, MP Mohsen Radi described the assault on journalists of the most popular Egyptian and Arab newspaper Al-Ahram at the hands of its workers as a violation of the freedom of opinion and expression in an institution that supposedly conveys and expresses people’s ideas. 
 
“This is a clear sign that the paper doesn’t convey the ideas of people whether outside or inside the institution,” Radi said adding, “the institution was supposed to choose a delegation among those who were on strike to negotiate with them, meet their requests, and dismiss the sit-in; but this didn’t happen.”
 
It is mentioned that around 300 Ahram journalists protested in the main …of El-Ahram building against the decision of the paper’s Chairman Morsi Atallah preventing them from working anywhere outside the institution and giving them the choice to either work solely for El-Ahram or resign.
 
Atallah’s decision had provoked the anger of hundreds of journalists working in media institutions other than El-Ahram and workers outside the institution who considered the decision unconstitutional, illegal, and illegitimate considering that Atallah’s administrative term had expired.
 
The protesters further accused Al-Ahram’s administrative and editorial policies of causing deterioration in the institution’s publications, reduction in editorial quality, and wasting talents and abilities rather than conserving them and requested an accurate disclosure of the salaries earned by the paper’s big employees and profits of the institution.
