The Criminal court decided Tuesday, March 17, to postpone the case of Buheyra University Chief of Police Ahmed Eissa to May 17 to listen to the witnesses" testimonies.
The Damanhour prosecution had transferred the suspect to the criminal court on charges of using harshness and causing permanent distortions in the body of Damanhour MB student of commerce Mohamed Abdul-Maqsud. The physical assault which took place on March 21, 2007 led to the student"s explosion of the right eyeball and protrusion of the viterous body from an injury in the cornea, and loss of the lens and anterior chamber, which weakened his eyesight by 15%.
It is worth mentioning that the legal center "My Right" had issued a statement in which it expressed its solidarity with the student assault victim and fully refused the use of violence and physical assault and torture as a means adopted in the state no matter what the reasons. The center further expressed its trust in the Egyptian judicature as the arbitrator between the student Mohamed Abdul-Maqsud and the Chief of Police.
The general prosecution had later decided to transfer the accused Ahmed Eissah Taha to the criminal court as the first case of its kind against a university police and actually ran the session on February 17, 2009 in the Alexandria criminal court in Damanhour where it postponed the case to March 17, 2009 to listen to the witnesses.
On the other hand in Buheyra also, state security investigations forces led by Captain Tal"at El-Ghabashy and Damanhur State Security Officer Nagy El-Gamal raided an Islamic bookshop "Toward the Light" located in Tor Sinai Street confiscating several different commodities.
Ghabashi and Gamal led the confiscation process themselves according to eye witnesses who said that the state security officers were specifying which commodities they wanted to confiscate including Islamic books, quran audio tapes, flyers and rosters and records of the bookshop"s clients; in all reaching around 10,000 LE worth of confiscated commodities.
