Kefaya to Join Upcoming April 6 Strike

In a statement which Ikhwanweb received a copy of, the Egyptian reform movement Kefaya announced its official participation in the strike called on by the April 6 Youth movement explaining that the last April 6th strike which it described as the “April 6 uprising” had affirmed Kefaya’s requests.

In a statement which Ikhwanweb received a copy of, the Egyptian reform movement Kefaya announced its official participation in the strike called on by the April 6 Youth movement explaining that the last April 6th strike which it described as the “April 6 uprising” had affirmed Kefaya’s requests.
 
Kefaya also affirmed that freedom in Egypt can’t be attained through appeals only but also through initiatory field action, the organization of strikes and sit-ins in factories and facilities, the incorporation of Egyptian people’s national, social, and political requests in a comprehensive plan and all-inclusive coalition, and the peaceful ending of dictatorial rule by means of civil rebellion.
 
Kefaya further called on students, workers, employees, professionals, intellectuals, university professors, social and political movements, and syndicates to coordinate their efforts and unify the requests of the Egyptian people into five major and urgent requests:  establishing a minimum monthly wage of 1200 LE, doubling retirement pensions, and ending insurance embezzlement; expelling university guards and canceling bylaw number 79 which restricts student and academic liberties, and the liberation of syndicates and supporting the establishment of independent ones; freezing the Camp David Accords and halting the exportation of gas to Israel; releasing Mahalla detainees of all political affiliations; and gathering  and directing national efforts towards the establishment and organization of an Egyptian coalition movement for change.
 
Moreover, sources from the April 6 Youth movement revealed to Ikhwanweb signs of El-Karama party’s (under construction) participation in the upcoming strike on April 6.  On the other hand, no reactions on the part of the Egyptian regime towards the call on the strike have been reported.
