MB and Salafi Candidates Lose Ten Seats in Kuwaiti Elections

In a comment to Dr. Mohamed Habib (Deputy Chairman of Muslim Brotherhood group) he stated to Ikhwanweb that the results of elections reflect a dissatisfaction with the government and opposition because of the ongoing political deadlock and instability, therefore, voters wanted to put an end to this path.He added that it was the lack of actual programs for practicing real democracy in itself that made Kuwait reach a political deadlock.

The Kuwaiti Parliamentary elections witnessed a significant loss for MB and Salafi movement candidates as the official results in five electoral constituencies has shown that the main two groups who represent Sunnis in Kuwait have lost most of the seats they dominated in the previous parliament. The Salafi Islamic Assembly lost two seats out of four they held , while the Islamic Constitutional Movement emanating from the Muslim Brotherhood group won one seat down from three seats in the previous parliament, hence the power of Sunni Muslims and their supporters has decreased from 21 to just 11 seats in this elected Council.

Meanwhile, Habib criticized the political discourse by MB candidates in particular, which he thought needed to evolve in order better respond to the needs of the heart of the Kuwaiti society.

 

Habib did not describe the losses as failure, instead an attempt by the Kuwaiti society to end the political tension between opposition and the regime in an atmosphere in which democracy is maturing.
