8 Al Fayyum MBs Acquitted

Egypt’s Al Fayyum court acquitted eight MB detainees after upholding their lawyer’s appeal. Egypt’s Al Fayyum court acquitted eight MB detainees after upholding their lawyer’s appeal.

Al Fayyum court of misdemeanors acquitted and ordered immediately releasing eight detainees affiliated to Muslim Brotherhood (MB) in Al Fayyum after their lawyer lodged an appeal to the attorney general against the provisional detention according to the amendment in the legal procedures law and according to article 71 of the constitution.

An urgent session was held in the consultation chamber on Saturday March, 24, 2007, and the court, headed by counselor Khaled Hammad, issued its ruling of releasing the eight defendants who appeared before it:

Ahmed Ibrahim Bayyoumi, accountant at Mallahat company.
Gamal Abdul Fattah, manager of the drinking waters facility in Etsa.
Ayman Qorani Mohamed, an employee at Bandar Al Fayyum prosecution .
Mohamed Radwan Ahmed, an accountant at the taxes authority.
Mohamed Hashem Hassan, Treasurer of the Syndicate of applied professions.
Ahmed Fouad Beltagi Akhsaea, radiologist.
Eng. Saad Mahmoud, a general manager at the ministry of irrigation.
Mahmoud Sayed Abdul Razek, a teacher.

It is worth mentioning that one of the detainees, Azmi Ahmed Abdul Tawwab will appear before the court later to discuss releasing him. The Egyptian government has arrested more than 250 Muslim Brotherhood leaders in successive crackdowns during the past few months; the group attributed these crackdowns to the regime’s plans for passing the constitutional amendments and preventing the Muslim Brotherhood from participating in the coming Shura Council elections .

The prosecution can challenge the court release within 24 hours; otherwise this ruling must be implemented duty immediately .

The Egyptian Interior Ministry has been recently adopting a policy of defiantly not implementing court’s rulings of releasing detainees and it arrests them again despite the court acquittals.
