He also stripped me of my clothing while mocking me, as if torturing me delighted him. I stood with with my hands tied, which caused my hands to have temporary paralysis as I couldn’t feel them, as well as feeling that my spine would break from the pressure of the thick stick. I felt that my soul had left me for the whole three hours.

As stated in the Declaration of the Egyptian Constitution in 1971 "Man"s dignity is a natural reflection of the nation"s dignity, now that the individual is the cornerstone in the edifice of the homeland, and land that derives its strength and prestige from the value of man and his education". On the 8th and 9th of June I was summoned to the State Security Investigations (SSI) headquarters in Lazoghli to meet with Major Tarek Galal. I went with the glimmer of hope that I would be treated with the respect worthy of a human being: as well as being one of the jurists who are required to maintain the freedom and dignity of people, since I work as a free lawyer. On entering, I was surprised that I was to meet with the Administrator of State and Security Investigations Major Tarek Galal. They covered my eyes and face to begin a journey in the dark so that I could not see anything. I remained in terror and fear moreover feeling the humiliation in knowing that I had gone on my own accord as a lawyer and was not forced to go on knowing I was summoned. That was the beginning, and you can imagine what followed. Although Mr Tarek Galal knows well that I am a lawyer and I had gone upon his request this he tied my hands and placed a thick stick between my hands putting pressure on the vertebral column behind my neck. This made me unable to stand and I was about to faint more than once because of the pain and blood congesting in my hands and neck as I was also fasting. He also stripped me of my clothing while mocking me, as if torturing me delighted him. I stood with with my hands tied, which caused my hands to have temporary paralysis as I couldn"t feel them, as well as feeling that my spine would break from the pressure of the thick stick. I felt that my soul had left me for the whole three hours. The mentioned officer brought an electrocuting machine, and tested it to terrorise me, asking me "How many times would you like to be electrocuted" and "Have you ever been electocuted before!?". All this happened while the mockery of the officer continued, under his supervision, instructions, and his ordering the rope was tightened on my hands preventing the blood from reaching my hands. He then threatened to arrest me telling me that the "arrest warrant" was ready claiming that he could also transfer me to a Martial court hearing and get me involved in any case on fabricated charges. Your Excellency, At the headquarters of the SSI in Lazoghli no one may be asked on the law, constitition or customs; because as the informed me: "They are above the law and above thew Constitution". Your Excellency, Article 57 of the Egyptian Constitution provided that any assault on individual freedom or on the inviolability of the private life of citizens and any other publiuc rights and liberties guaranteed by the constitution or the law shall be considered a crime, whose criminal and lawsuit is not liable to prescription. The State shall grant a fair compensation to the victim of such an assault". We hear day and night in our media which claims to be a pioneer that we are living in a state of law, institutions and the sovereignty of law, and that we have signed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and convention against torture, that no one, no matter how influencing he may be, how distinguished his position or job he will not go unpunished if he violates the sanctity, assaults, threatens or humiliates another human being... That is what we cointinuously hear from the media and the officials in our country. I hereby submit to your Excellency actual facts which happened to me in the SSI in Lazoghli, under the supervision of Major Tarek Galal and with the presence of security leader Ahmed Magdy. I went on their request, but they insulted me and humiliated my dignity, violating my body and freedom as I outlined and demonstrated, so will the law take its course and will the offender be punished for his crimes, and will freedoms be protected? Will people and their dignity be safe in their homeland..or will it be as they told me "We put the law in toilets to clean!!!!" *Nasr City resident and lawyer. |
