The security authorities at Cairo international airport barred Cairo University Professor of Economics and Political Science, Dr Abd-al-Hamid al-Ghazali, from traveling abroad for the 14th time since 1999.

Dr. Abd Al-Hamid Al-Ghazali was on his way  to Yemen as he was a member of the delegation of the Islamic Economics Centre of al-Azhar University which was travelling to Yemen to "make an evaluation of the programmes of the Islamic economics in a number of Yemeni universities, then he was surprised especially after he has ended all procedures within the airport check-in area by security informing him that he was barred from travelling.

Dr al-Ghazali said in a statement to Ikhwanonline that he had notified the whole security services of his intention to travel. He received permission to travel from the Faculty of economics and political sciences, Cairo University in which he works; however, he has been arbitrarily prevented from leaving the country.

"Since I left the detention camp in 1999, I have been banned from traveling 14th times. I traveled 10 times and each time there were not clear rules to prevent me or allowing travel. the matter is not subjected to any standards. I have been barred, for example, a few days before I was to travel to the island of Malta to take part in an international conference on the global economic crisis. However, I was allowed to travel twice on April to the UAE and Jordan to participate in similar conferences."

He emphasized that there was no real reason whether it was security or in practice for barring him from travel and that this was an infringement on the scientific activities and endeavors that the security authorities should be not related with.
