Hamas on Wednesday denied press reports that it was pondering a change in the list of Palestinian prisoners names tabled with the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) to be freed in return for the release of captured soldier Gilad Shalit.

Osama Al-Muzzaini, who is in charge of Shalit"s file in the Hamas Movement, told Safanews that the reports were "baseless".

He explained that Hamas does not wish to introduce any changes in the list of names of those prisoners, adding that any such change would render the exchange deal worthless.

The Hamas official said that his Movement wants the release of Palestinians serving high sentences.

Muzzaini said that Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak"s assurances to Israeli president Shimon Peres that Shalit was alive and well were mere "wishes and public relations".

He underlined that none knows whether Shalit was alive or dead following the latest Israeli war on Gaza except those closely linked to his whereabouts.

A political analyst in the Israeli television had expected his government to deliver an amended list of prisoners to be freed in exchange for Shalit.
