GAZA --  The Gaza sewerage treatment station and the rainwater drainage system in the Gaza Strip could not deal with heavy rains, which means that certain suburbs could be flooded, the director of the station said.

Farid Ashur told a press conference in Gaza city on Wednesday that previous government institutions did not invest their funds to improve the rain drainage system.

He explained that all rainwater drainage networks were small and with limited capacity, adding that they could not deal with rainwater and sewage at the same time.

Gaza would not be able to stand two days of heavy rains, Ashur noted, adding that the most dangerous area is in Jabaliya in northern Gaza.
