Prosecutors in Menya decided to detain 16 college students for 15 days charging them with assault on the university's administration, damaging of public funds, unauthorized assembly and participating in attempts to overturn the ruling regime.
The students who were arrested were protesting to unjust actions taken against 13 of their colleagues who were arrested earlier and accused of unauthorized assembly in front of the university's gates. Six of the students were arrested from the universities premises while others were arrested from their homes. Families of the students who were absent from their homes during the raids were subjugated to injustices as members of their families were taken as hostages so that the students would hand themselves in. |
