In the name of Allah, the Beneficent the Merciful Based on the teachings of Islam, which prohibits undue bloodshed and promotes the necessity of respecting humanity the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt strongly condemns the sectarian clashes and horrific massacres between Muslims and Christians in Nigeria. The massacres have claimed scores of lives and left hundreds killed in the latest flare-up of religious violence which initially erupted in 2001 and again in 2008.
Muslim Brotherhood chairman Dr Mohamed Badie asks the Organization of Islamic Conference, the African Union and the African Council for Human Rights to intervene immediately and call on all rival parties to end the massacres of innocent people. He expressed the significance and necessity to investigate the causes behind the clashes.
Badie stated "We want to remind the Nigerian people of the Muslim and Christian values that call for tolerance, coexistence and solidarity to confront the current difficulties facing Nigeria which include poverty, unemployment, fascism and oppression.
We also call upon the Nigerian government to take action and report the results of the investigation, and hasten the pace towards socio-political reform to achieve the strength of the national fabric of Africa's largest country.
