Haneyya: reconciliation does not mean returning to the starting point

Palestinian premier Ismail Haneyya stated Monday that national reconciliation should not be on the basis of replacing those who protected Gaza and maintained its stability, and returning to the starting point.

“We will not forsake those who carried the banner when thousands of employees refused to report to duty and left the Strip and its institutions disabled,” Haneyya stressed during a ceremony to honor staff of the high justice council in the cabinet headquarters.

The premier also highlighted that Gaza is blessed with an impartial and independent judicial system and there is no political authority over it.

In a related context, Dr. Ahmed Bahar, the first deputy speaker of the Palestinian legislative council, said Monday that the national reconciliation is a strategic, national and religious need for all Palestinians.

This came during a news conference held at the Rafah border crossing following the arrival of an Arab parliamentary delegation.

Dr. Bahar took the opportunity to call on all Arab and Muslim lawmakers to contribute to bridging the gap between the Palestinian rivals on the basis of the national constants and rights.

He stressed that the Israeli siege on Gaza may be  tough however, what is more tough, is to expect  the Palestinian people to  give up their homeland and holy sites.
