In a press release on Monday, Tawil said that there should be a differentiation between the speaker's right to perform his duties and the position regarding the emergency PLC session. All MPs are free to attend the session or not and similarly the speaker is absolutely authorized to enter the council and assume his duties, Tawil added. For his part, Dr. Mahmoud Al-Ramahi, the PLC secretary, told the PIC that the emergency session was meant to send a message to the Israeli occupation and the world at large that the Palestinian people's legitimate representatives are united for the sake of Jerusalem. However, he noted, Fatah apparently has other priorities. Ramahi said that Abbas's militias prevented the convening of the session, adding that what happened clearly indicate that Fatah was not interested in reconciliation but rather was deepening division. "We will try and convene another session within the few coming days but if Fatah insisted on blocking us we will hold it outside the PLC," the MP underlined. |
