Dr. Taleb Abu Shaar, the minister of Awkaf (Endowments) and religious affairs, has denounced the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) for starting to build the so-called Museum of Tolerance on the land of Mamanulla cemetery west of occupied Jerusalem.

Abu Shaar on Monday said in a statement that the 14 centuries old cemetery is considered a human legacy, and comprises graves some of which are 800 years old.

The IOA, who started building a fence over an area of 12 dunums around the cemetery, is the only authority in the world that is violating human and Islamic heritage, he elaborated.

The minister underlined that the IOA had previously confiscated 70% of the cemetery's area to establish the so-called independence park.

Abu Shaar asked the Arabs, Muslims and all concerned parties to protect those shrines and historical landmarks in view of their sanctity and status.

For his part, the head of the Islamic cemeteries in Jerusalem, Mustafa Abu Zahra, said that the IOA step is a flagrant violation of an Islamic graveyard, adding that the remains of dead bodies were desecrated.
