A British parliamentary report has urged the government to reconsider arms sales to Israel after the government acknowledged that the Israeli army used British made weaponry in its attack on Gaza last year. The Guardian newspaper said on Tuesday that the Committees on Arms Export Controls said that it was almost certain that British arms exports were used by Israel in the offensive on Gaza. It noted that British foreign minister David Miliband had acknowledged the possibility in parliament. The report welcomed the government's decision to cancel five permits to export equipment to the Israeli navy, adding that guarantees should be ascertained that Israel would not use British weapons in the occupied lands in future. |
