- Ra'ed Fattuh, the head of the committee coordinating entry of goods into Gaza Strip, has denied that Israel had informed the PA or his committee of its intent to allow entry of construction material and cement into the besieged Strip.

He said, in response to a news report in this regard published by Hebrew daily Ma'ariv, "We pressure Israel on daily basis to reactivate the Gaza crossings."

The Strip, which was the target of a ferocious Israeli offensive in late 2008 that lasted till early 2009, is in need of 3,500 new housing units to replace those destroyed in the Israeli shelling and bulldozing, Fattuh underlined.

He added that around 17,000 other housing units were in need of reconstruction after they were partially destroyed.

For its part, UNRWA said that there was no information on entry of construction material, adding that Israel did not inform UNRWA on any date for allowing such material. He added that many UNRWA projects were frozen as a result of the Israeli siege that entered its fourth consecutive year.
