Abdel Rahman Fares and Jannet Abdul Alim from the April 6 Youth movement are the latest victims of sexual assault and harassments by state security. The activists who were arrested after the April 6 demonstrations downtown Cairo were molested in one of the detention centres as police stripped and searched them for modems they didn't possess. Fares published the incident on his profile on the electronic social network Facebook confirming that both he and Jannet Abdel Alim were subjected to humiliating abuses by the security apparatus. He was beaten, cursed and insulted by security officials in the detention centre which had also housed an additional 90 members from the MB youth who were arrested with other demonstrators who had assembled to participate in the peaceful demonstration calling for constitutional amendments. It is worth noting that this is not the first incident of sexual abuse, beatings, harassments and insults to detainees by security services, where officials have been tried after videos were brought forward as evidence. |
