MP Jamal Al-Khudari, the head of the popular committee against the siege, on Saturday warned that 1,000 containers of different goods belonging to Palestinian merchants in Gaza and stacked at Israel’s ports for more than three years are vulnerable to damage as happened to the shipments of shoes and clothes which were recently allowed into the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli occupation authority (IOA) had allowed recently several truckloads of shoes and clothing kept at its ports for more than three years into Gaza, where the importer discovered that the goods valued at $260,000 became defective and invalid for use.

Khudari said that Israel, in fact, is still imposing a tight blockade on Gaza, closing the crossings and preventing the entry of 4, 000 items of goods as well as raw and building materials.

As for the shoes and clothing that were allowed in by Israel lately, he explained that this merchandise had spent more than one thousand days at Israel’s ports and became spoilt, and thus approving its entry was intended for relieving some of the burden on these ports and portraying Israel before the world public opinion as if it facilitates the movement of goods into Gaza.
