Ketan Tanta and Salemko laborers Protest

Workers at theTanta Company for Ketan resumed their open strike in front of the Council of Ministers in Cairo after suspending the stand for 45 days. The workers industrial action was initiated to condemn the officials' negligence to former promises which were made.

Workers at theTanta Company for Ketan resumed their open strike in front of the Council of Ministers in Cairo after suspending the stand for 45 days. The workers industrial action was initiated to condemn the officials' negligence to former promises which were made.

Protestors held banners such as “negotiate with workers and no one else”, “Aisha, We won’t give up”, “nationalization is the solution” and “down down to investments”.

Workers at the Tanta Company had suspended their 12 day strike on February 22,  after Aisha Abdel Hady, Minister of Manpower, had appeased their anger and  promised them that they would retire on early pension and receive 40, 000 LE pounds, however this  was refused by the owner of the company.

The Deputy Minister of Manpower had formerly met with laborers in the Gharbeya governorate last week and promised to solve their problems and implement the agreement on April 15.  A second meeting on April 12 revealed that  he withdrew the promises saying that he did not specify a date and the minister is still working on solving the issue.

In a similar context, hundreds of workers from the Salemko Company organized a protest in front of the Shura Council protesting against the delay in their pay for the months of February and March. They also objected to not receiving their rightful annual rise of wages

The protestors refused to budge from their places of protest despite demands by the Security forces.
