RAMALLAH, -- An Islamic Jihad-affiliated prisoner in Mahmoud Abbas’s jails in the West Bank went on hunger strike five days ago and still refuses to eat in protest at detaining him without leveling any charge against him.

The Islamic Jihad Movement said one of its prisoners in Abbas’s jails called Samir Hajaj was transferred to hospital as a result of his hunger strike, calling on the Palestinian Authority (PA) in Ramallah to release him immediately.

Hajaj who hails from the village of Saida in the northern West Bank district of Tulkarem was kidnapped two months ago by Abbas's militia and taken to Juneid prison in Nablus.
