The international Tadamun (solidarity) society for human rights said Sunday that Israel intends to take new punitive measures against the Palestinian prisoners during the coming period.

Human rights activist at the society Ahmed Al-Beitawi affirmed that Israeli minister of internal security Yitzhak Aharonovitch backtracked on his objection to a draft law calling for tightening the punitive measures against Palestinian prisoners and expressed his readiness to expedite the procedures in this regard.

Beitawi added that the position of Aharonovitch agrees with a draft law introduced earlier by Knesset member Danny Danon calling for depriving Hamas prisoners of receiving visits from their families and lawyers.

The activist noted that these new measures include minimizing the visits of families and lawyers, and preventing prisoners from hugging their children during visits, watching television, reading newspapers and magazines and pursuing their education.

The ministerial committee of the Israeli government is supposed to discuss the new punitive measures today during its weekly meeting.
