NGO's to monitor Shura Elections
The Egyptian Organization for Human Rights has announced that it will monitor the upcoming midterm Shura elections in 35 constituencies

A court ruling issued in November 2005 provided that "civil society organizations have the right to follow the elections both in and outside the polling stations, count votes and follow-up the announcement of results

Hafez Abu Seda President of the Human Rights Organization in Egypt asserted that it was imperative that there be supervision over the elections' transparency, its process and objectivity


The organization has set up an operation room to monitor the elections and follow up complaints and violations in all constituencies. Several hot lines have also been set up to for this service

The supervisors will monitor the work of the Supreme Committee for Elections and ascertain the extent of its commitment to the implementation of the law

Abu Seda called on governmental bodies, political parties, candidates, media and the electoral commission to cooperate with the observers in order to facilitate the successful running of free and fair elections
