RAFAH, -- Six Palestinian citizens were killed on Saturday when a gas cylinder exploded in one of the tunnels dug under the Egyptian-Palestinian borders in Rafah area, south of the Gaza Strip, medical sources reported. Dr. Muawiya Hasanein, the director of ambulance and emergency, told the PIC reporter that 14 other citizens were injured in the explosion, including two in critical condition. Palestinians in Gaza use the tunnels to secure their food, fuel and other needs after the Israeli siege was imposed on them over three years ago while Egypt refuses to allow commercial goods to pass through the Rafah terminal, which has been closed ever since Hamas took over control of Gaza Strip in summer 2006 and is only partially opened at separate intervals. |
