The Muslim Brotherhood opposition bloc, independent candidates and NDP members are to compete for 74 seats in 55 different constituencies during the Shura midterm elections Tuesday June 1st

446 candidates from 13 different political parties will be running in the elections, despite legal challenges submitted to the Administrative Court against some candidates
According to Intisar Selim, the Electoral Committee's chairman, civil society organizations are expected to closely monitor the elections to ensure the process is fair and transparent
However, it remains to be seen if in fact the voting process will be as transparent as President Mubarak had assured in previous statements
