TERENGGANU, -- Former Malaysian premier Mahathir Mohamed urged Egypt not to yield to Israel’s pressures and to facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid to the Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip.

The national news agency Bernama quoted Mohamed as saying that Israel will do anything to make sure that humanitarian aid does not reach Gaza or delay its delivery to the impoverished people there.

Mohamed told journalists following a grassroots meeting held in Terengganu state that despite the opening of Rafah border crossing, Israel will pressure Egypt to hinder the movement of goods into Gaza at the pretext that there are weapons inside them.

In another context, the Bahrain news agency reported Monday that the kingdom sent a shipment of humanitarian aid to Gaza through Rafah crossing composed of 40 tons of medical and relief aid.

The agency quoted head of the Bahraini royal charity Sheikh Nasser Al-Khalifa as saying that this aid is the fourth batch sent at the behest of King Hamad Al-Khalifa to Gaza within few days.

The Bahraini delegation that brought the aid into Gaza intends to take with them a number of children who received medical care at the Bahrain center for prosthetics in the Strip to visit the kingdom and meet his majesty Al-Khalifa.
