Authorities ban entry for aid convoy to Gaza

Mohsen Radi, from the Muslim Brotherhood Parliamentary Bloc has maintained that Egyptian authorities have barred activists from delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza through the Rafah crossing despite orders by the President to keep the Rafah order indefinitely open to allow the entry of aid

The trucks were carrying 50 tons of relief aid and three tons of medicines and supplies.

Radi described the decision to keep the crossing open as 'on for show' stressing that it was meaningless in practical terms. The professional associations had loaded a convoy with relief aid from the Qalyubeya Governorate and were faced with many problems. They were constantly barred from continuing their journey and their convoys were seized on their arrival in Arish

The Egyptian authorities asked the convoys' organizers  to go to the Awjah crossing to admit the relief aid through an  Israeli crossing. The request was denied as organizers refused to hand over the convoy to the Israeli entity where they engage in a sit in together with the delegations that were supportive of the Gaza cause in front of the Rafah crossing despite threats. Opposition groups have accused Egyptian authorities of involvement in the Israeli blockade and have demanded a full, unrestricted opening of the border. He emphasized that Egypt  was  duty-bound by history and geography to help the 1.5 million encircled Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

Radi said he would submit an urgent inquiry at the People's Assembly of the violations that have been committed against the relief convoys heading  to support the Gazan people, and another questioning  the neglect  of the Egyptian ruling regime concerning the continued opening of the crossing on permanent basis.
