BEIRUT, -- Lebanon strongly denounced the threats made by Israeli infrastructure minister Uzi Landau about the use of force to control gas fields in international waters in the east of the Mediterranean and his claims that these fields are located in Israeli territorial waters.

Speaker of the Lebanese parliament Nabih Berri stated Friday that Israel ignored that these fields extend according to maps to the Lebanese territorial waters.

Berri demanded, in his statement, the Lebanese government to accelerate the exploration of oil and gas in the territorial waters, warning of the dangerous repercussions that could happen if Israel stole Lebanon's gas resources in the Mediterranean.

Director general of the oil installations Sarkis Halis warned that Lebanon would deal seriously with Israel's threats to use military force to control gas fields in the east of the Mediterranean.
